Reading Research

How to Improve Reading Outcomes with Evidence-based Practices, Gather Data, and Use it to Engage Families.

In this 2hr workshop, Dr Susan Zoll and Dr Natasha Feinberg will give an overview of the current research on reading, including the Simple View of Reading as well as Scarborough’s Reading Rope. They will examine the alignment of the Montessori Language materials and method with current research on reading, including Direct Instruction. Participants will then be led through a data collection cycle that will help them understand their students’ language and literacy learning. Finally, using a newly developed family partnership planning tool, participants will review literacy-based family engagement experiences across the academic year to improve student outcomes. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions directly of the authors. This workshop will help build educators’ confidence in speaking about Montessori practice around reading and literacy.
