Since its inception, the Montessori Australia Foundation has represented the interests of the Montessori sector at both the state and national levels. MAF has enabled Montessorians across the country to speak with “one voice” and we are delighted that Montessori is now seen as a significant sector by government and other agencies. With this in place we are working on a number of fronts to achieve further recognition of Montessori and to advocate for the interests of children, especially highlighting the importance of the first years of life. MAF continues to work closely with the Montessori Children’s Foundation and is seeking opportunities to work with government to further our work in Indigenous education. We also consult with the two major training organisations in Australia, Montessori World Education Institute Australia and the Australian Montessori Teacher Education Foundation, on all major policy issues and government submissions.
The government liaison agenda has been very full as the federal government works on the ‘education revolution’. As the national body, we make representations in each state on issues relating to children and continue to build a strong relationship with the Independent Schools Council of Australia. We have a relationship with the child care sector, including Childcare Associations Australia and the National Childcare Accreditation Council and make a priority to ensure that Montessori is on the government’s early education agenda.
One of our major focus areas is the drafting and submission of responses on behalf of the Montessori sector on major policy and regulation reviews both on a federal and state level. We constantly strive to support Montessori education in this complex and changing landscape.
