Montessori Ageing Support Services Conference

Montessori methods for dementia focus on supporting the person living with dementia and changing the care culture. It is a strengths based approach where the techniques are intended to engage people with dementia in life and living, by providing an environment that focuses on a person's strengths, supports their losses and circumvents their deficits whilst providing purpose to their day through meaningful activities and roles. The goal of Montessori is to support a person to be as independent as possible, to make choices and to be treated with respect and dignity. Montessori enhances quality of life.
