The 2008 edition has an emphasis on Montessori’s Contribution to Society. This contribution starts with the child in the home environment and the very special role parents have as their child’s first educators. We join the journey of a Montessori family as their children’s preschool experience has a lasting and beneficial impact. We then move to the primary years and explore the child’s moral development. We see that this moral development forms the basis for human unity and peace. Peace was at the heart of Maria Montessori’s life and work. Nominated three times for the Nobel peace prize Dr Montessori saw education as essential for establishing lasting peace. Lastly we look at the work of a number of Montessorians who are applying Montessori principles in diverse settings supporting children, families and communities.
