After 21 years of teaching in traditional settings, Sister Eileen Savage got her second wind and embarked on her Montessori journey in 1993. Inspired by Pat Hilson, she dedicated another 21 years to teaching at the 'Red Gum' campus in Canberra, where she helped children develop inner discipline.

Upon retiring in 2015 when Red Hill closed, Eileen seized the opportunity to continue her Montessori journey in Timor-Leste. She set up Montessori 3-6 classrooms, facing challenges in sourcing materials and training teachers. Over five years, she played a pivotal role in establishing these classrooms, helping to create classroom albums translated into Tetun.

Though COVID restrictions have sadly prevented her from returning to Maliana, Eileen remains grateful for the chance to follow Maria Montessori's teaching methods. Her journey included an inspiring visit to the Children's House where Maria taught during a tour to Rome in 2007.

Known as a legend by those who know her, Eileen continues to assist Montessori educators on their own journeys to ensure that more children can experience this remarkable method of education. She still visits Wendy's small Montessori pre-school in Yass to give lessons to children today.
