2023 Living Legend Award Recipient

Dr Marion O’Donnell has worked as a classroom teacher (Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2) in Scotland, Canada and Australia (NSW and Qld).  She has also been a Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and a Researcher at The University of Queensland (UQ).  She has been directly involved in Montessori Education in Australia since 1977, and was instrumental in introducing Montessori Education into a mainstream Queensland State School (Grovely State School in Brisbane) through meetings with the Queensland Minister for Education and interested parents in 2008.  Montessori classes began running at Grovely in 2009 and have grown since then.

Marion holds a 3-year Teaching Diploma from Scotland, a Bachelor’s degree from QUT, and a Masters and a Doctorate in Education (on Montessori) from Deakin University in Victoria.  She holds Montessori qualifications from Birth to 12 years. 

In the past, Marion was a Board Member of Montessori World Educational Institute (MWEI) and also an Examiner, a Tutor and a Workshop Presenter for MWEI.  She is the author of two books on Montessori education, published in 2007 and 2013.
