The Montessori Approach to Aged Care and Dementia
EVENT POSTPONED - TO BE RESCHEDULED
This workshop is an overview of ageing and dementia from a Montessori perspective.
Who was Maria Montessori and what is dementia? How can the work of a pedagogue be relevant to ageing? What are the human tendencies and how do they change throughout life? Can we build multi-sensory experiences using direct and indirect aims to enhance the lives of people with dementia? How can meaningful activities build community and create hope?
We will discuss how our changing brain physiology effects independence and behaviour. We will explore when, why and how these changes occur and look into Montessori philosophy and principles from a different perspective. We will share ideas for designing activities with purpose to create opportunities for the hand to feed the mind.
This talk includes:
- The wholistic view of the person
- Emotional triggers
- Human tendencies
- Different forms of communication
- How to provide a sense of purpose and well-being through work
