
Online Resources for Children
Many people mistakenly think that Montessori doesn't support the use of technology. However, as Montessori is a specially crafted learning environment where children are able to respond to their natural development, there is certainly a place for the use of technology, wheresoever it benefits the child.
Maria Montessori herself, as a scientist and educator, recognised this:
"For in our times science has created a new world in which the whole of humanity is joined together by a universal scientific culture. Thus, children should learn to use machines habitually as part of their education.” (Childhood to Adolescence p.117-118)
An important factor to consider in the use of technology, is that the experiences should not take the place of hands-on, real-time activities, especially for younger children. From a primary age level, technology can be a vaulable resource for research, communication, and creative expression.
