Workshop: Mentoring - WA
This workshop will support schools and centres to use mentoring
to facilitate sharing knowledge, expertise, skills, insights, and experiences through dialogue and collaborative learning. It will also assist with tackling human resource issues such as employee retention and professional development.
Mentoring can be a stimulating journey of self-discovery and development which provides opportunities for personal fulfilment and achievement. It is a fundamental form of human development where one person invests time, energy and personal know-how assisting the growth and ability of another person. The aim of the workshop is to build the capacity of mentors to support less experienced Montessori teachers through ongoing professional learning embedded in day-to-day practice. This has a positive impact on improving student learning outcomes and assists the school or centre with human resource challenges.
The session will cover:
• Types of mentoring relationships
• Communication skills – giving and receiving feedback in particular
• The role of a coach versus a mentor
• Dealing with challenging workplace situations/people
• Staff appraisals/evaluation – some methodologies
Participant outcomes:
• Understand the benefits of cultivating mentoring in your school or centre
• Examine best practice in workplace mentoring programmes
• Learn to develop and manage an effective employee mentoring programme
• Connect with other Montessori educators and school leaders considering workplace mentoring as a way of addressing human resource challenges
