This workshop will explore some of the elements of written work in the 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 classrooms.
The hand and mind are the tools needed for clear and beautiful writing. We want to guide our students in technical and creative expression to help them to produce work that is pleasing to the mind and pleasing to the eye.
The Preparation for Writing: Dr. Montessori described the exuberant explosion into writing that was made by children in the first Casa dei Bambini. For the 3-6 child we do not teach writing, but support natural development in such a way that children make the joyful discovery they can make their language visible . We will examine what we have in our Montessori toolbox so as to offer children the assistance they need for this to happen.
The Process of Writing: Clear thinking and clear writing go hand in hand. How do we guide 6-12 students to organise, analyse and synthesise their research? How can we assist them in their creative writing.
The Product of Writing: Careful penmanship, decoration, illumination, and illustration contribute to the beautiful finished product of written work. How can we guide and inspire our students to incorporate artistic expression in to their writing projects.
The workshop will include a discussion of spelling at all age groups.
