The Music Shelf
The Music Shelf – providing children with independent music activities for them to choose to do throughout their day.
Be introduced to The Music Shelf – a neat concept in empowering children to embrace their innate need for self direction and self expression. In this session, as well as looking at the importance of music, we will discuss, explore and experience some ways of providing children with independent music activities for them to choose to do throughout their day. Leave with some ideas you can adapt for your class / centre / community and implement immediately.
Children have an innate desire to self direct just as much as they want to express themselves. It is important to provide a space where that is possible. Emma Creed has shared the concept of the Music Shelf with colleagues in a Montessori environment and other early learning environments with much success. You are invited to consider taking this concept, adapting it for use in your environment and create a Music Shelf in your classroom / early learning environment.
As much as possible our session will be interactive. Come prepared with an open heart and a willingness to participate. Bring your questions and a scarf or two to move/dance with.
