Creating Montessori Environments Workshop - VIC

This two-day program focuses on creating Montessori Environments, an innovative method of working with older adults living with cognitive and/or physical impairments.

Research has provided clear evidence of increased levels of engagement in activities when Montessori environments are created and associated decreases in the behaviours of unmet needs when people are actively engaged in meaningful activity. Participants in this workshop will learn about the basic principles of Montessori Methods and be given practical “hands-on” opportunities to apply the techniques and consider how this philosophy of care can be adopted for their resident/clients and programmes. The first day of the programme focuses on the facts (knowledge) and the second day focuses on putting the concepts into practice for residents/clients, activities and environments. Learning Outcomes for the workshops are available by contacting Montessori Ageing Support Services.

Any person who is interested in learning about new ways to deliver care and provide support to residents living with dementia are invited to attend. Montessori Methods can be implemented by a range of people including, nurses, support workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, paid carers, family members, volunteers and community support workers.
