Montessori Playgroup Guide Required

Peaceful Rooms is searching for amazing Montessorians to support the delivery of our Montessori programs for parents and children. Our roles are offered casually at this time, with view to permanency in the future.

About Us:

Alana of Peaceful Rooms has been supporting families and educators to learn about and apply the Montessori approach since 2014; facilitating the well established Montessori Playgroup and guiding our creche style Children’s House classroom. At the heart, Peaceful Rooms is about using the Montessori approach to bring peace into children’s (& their families) lives. We do this by creating responsive, prepared environments, and by guiding families with information and guidance on child development. We are always looking for opportunities to better meet families needs and to improve our services.

We will be expanding into our own community centre in the next 6-12 months so that we can offer our programs across more days of the week, and increase the variety of our programs. We aim to develop a close-knit team of staff whom can step into additional sessions if needed, and work together on the development of our services.

These roles will work best if you:

  • are passionate about the Montessori approach
  • get excited about working towards something meaningful
  • are not needing full days of work
  • can commit to a regular roster but have some flexibility to help at other times, and can grow your hours as our services evolve
  • enjoy learning through experience and dialogue with others

Role Description:

Montessori Guide, Montessori Playgroup (parents and children birth-4 years)

The Guide engages both parents and children in this program. This role supports the family to engage in our Montessori environment so as to aid the child’s development and better understand and apply the Montessori approach at the centre and at home. This may involve modelling interactions with the child, and demonstrating simple presentations of materials. The Guide will communicate freely with parents to create relationships that build trust for answering questions and allow us to impart our understandings of the Montessori approach and child development. The Guide plans for and maintains order in the physical environment so that it is inviting and ready for families and children. The Guide facilitates a small group time each session, usually through song or other effective medium.

Qualifications and specific experience in this role is not required, however our Guide will already have an understanding of Montessori principles with relevant experience and knowledge to share, and a willingness to continue learning. The Guide will enjoy meaningful dialogue with parents of young children, and making a difference to each families daily life. Our Guide will also be confident to make choices, yet happy to engage in dialogue with other staff to improve the program and take guidance from others.

The Guide will:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, orderly, and pleasant environment for children and families
  • Interact in a warm manner with children
  • Guide children to prepare simple food in a hygienic and safe manner
  • Communicate with parents in a professional and friendly manner, supporting families to feel welcome
