Montessori Guide (English): Adolescent Program (12-18)
Perth Montessori is an independent, inner-city school located in Burswood, beside the banks of the Derbal Yiragan (Swan River) on Whadjuk Noongar booja (country) in Perth, Western Australia. Established in 1980, we proudly offer Montessori education to children from playgroup to Year 12. We follow the Montessori method that prioritises the development of self-discipline, independence, and global citizenship, placing the student at the centre of their educational experience. We are committed to the development of the whole child who will be an independent thinker, ethically minded and ready to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
THE ROLE
Perth Montessori's Adolescent Program (AP) caters for young people aged 12 to 18 in two multi-aged class groups. Cycle 4, junior secondary, comprises Years 7 to 9, and Cycle 5, senior secondary, Years 10 to 12. In combination with the Montessori approach, we use Big Picture Learning Design as a framework to guide the program. Upon graduation, students receive the International Big Picture Learning Credential, an authentic alternative to WACE and ATAR that allows each student to follow their interests and prepare for life after school. Any pathway is possible: university, TAFE or employment, but each student follows a personalised plan designed specifically to get the most of out their secondary years.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants will hold a suitable Teaching Degree with subject specialisation in English (at least), have working rights in Australia and be eligible for registration with the TRBWA. A Montessori 12-18 Credential and/or experience working within a Montessori or Big Picture environment is highly desirable. You must be experienced in working with adolescents in a school environment. You will work closely with the Cycle 4 Advisor, taking responsibility for English and HASS, however, flexibility is always needed in this setting. You will develop individual learning plans with student and their parents, plan and support lessons for individual student needs.
