Junior Secondary School Teacher

BIG PICTURE LEARNING & MONTESSORI

Perth Montessori, is an independent co-educational, inner-city school that was established in Burswood over 40 years ago. It has a long and proud history of offering high-quality Montessori education to children from birth to 18 years. At Perth Montessori staff and community share a fundamental belief in the importance of mutual respect between children and adults, as well as cultivating personal and social responsibility and independence in young people.

This year, the School began exploring Big Picture Learning Design as the framework for its high school program and in 2023 will begin full implementation. Big Picture is not a curriculum but a design for learning; students in years 7-10 follow the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline but they do so in ways that are unique to them. In years 11 and 12 pathways to university, TAFE or employment are all provided but each student follows a personalised plan.

Applicants will be suitably qualified with a Teaching Degree, have the right to work in Australia and be eligible for registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. Experience working within a Big Picture Learning and/or Montessori Adolescent Program is preferred. However, an understanding of Big Picture, Montessori or alternate educational approaches and pathways will also be advantageous. A creative, flexible approach to teaching, willingness to extend yourself outside your comfort zone and experience of teaching adolescents with a focus on the development of literacy and numeracy skills, is essential.

As the Lead Advisor for Years 7 to 9, you are responsible for the planning, development, delivery, and/or facilitating the delivery of, each individual student’s learning plan, including assessment and reporting of achievement against the curriculum standards. You must actively seek out and build relationships with parents/carers, mentors, subject experts and external agencies to support the student’s learning goals and facilitate their pathway to tertiary study, training or the workforce.

You will be a team player, open to new ideas, receptive to feedback and reflective in your professional practice. You will have a high level of emotional intelligence and be able to communicate and relate well with a broad range of people.

This is a permanent position.

Perth Montessori places a high priority on child safety and all staff are required to adhere to the Child Protection Policy and Staff Code of Conduct.
