Interim CEO

Tara became involved with Montessori in 2012 when her daughter began her education at the Canberra Montessori School. Tara was elected onto the CMS Board in 2015 as a Sub-committee Chair, as Deputy Chair in 2016 and then as Board Chair in 2018; shortly before beginning her national contribution to Montessori Australia. Tara’s national contribution began as an elected Board member at first, following a national expression of interest and then from September 2018, Tara resigned from the Board to accept appointment as Interim CEO.

Tara brings a diverse range of experience and skills to Montessori Australia following 14 years in federal government, time prior and alongside that in private sector, and owning and operating her own small business teaching speech and drama, coaching and mentoring in public speaking. Tara performed at executive levels across government for more than a decade, including periods of acting in the Senior Executive Service and supervising up to 250 staff nationally. Tara holds a post graduate qualification in Human Resources Management, a Trinity College London Diploma in Speech and Drama (Teaching) and the Cert IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. Along with her journeys in social welfare and then as a Montessori parent, Tara’s two years of work in the child protection sector prior to joining Montessori Australia, cemented her commitment to respectful advocacy for the individual child.

Tara works from a foundation of authentic two-way engagement and enjoys enabling innovation through cohesive stakeholder input. Tara’s key strengths for Montessori Australia lie in her experience in the design and leadership of national, large-scale social welfare operations, innovation and change programs, including direct experience in the offices of federal ministers. Tara is humbled and excited by the opportunity to build alongside Montessori Educators and Leaders, a solid base from which to modernise Montessori Australia so we can grow nationally (more children in more quality Montessori programs), in part through effective government liaison and advocacy regarding Montessori education globally.

Tara joined Montessori Australia in 2018.
