Board Chair

Anthony Vandermolen has extensive experience in the education sector and school leadership, including 4.5 years as Principal of the Canberra Montessori School, one of the largest Montessori schools in Australia. At present, Anthony is the Head of Campus for Mer Island, a satellite of Tagai State College an independent public school in the Torres Strait. After almost a decade living and working in a number of remote Indigenous communities across Australia prior to this appointment, as well as a broad range of other city based schools and settings from community schools, GPS schools, state schools and schools with religious affiliations, this experience has contributed to Anthony's advocacy for change in contemporary teaching practices. In 2017 Anthony audited the Canberra AMI Montessori 3-6 Diploma and this further cemented his passion for a personalised learning journey for children. Anthony's qualifications include BSc (Psychology), BEd (Middle Years), MEd (Leadership), MEdSt (Guidance and Counselling), CertIV (Training & Assessment). He is a recipient of the ACEL ACT Excellence in Educational Leadership Award and holds professional memberships with the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (MACEL), Australian Counselling Association (MACA) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD). Anthony was first elected as Board Chair in September 2018 following resignation from the Founding Chair.

Anthony joined the Board of Montessori Australia in March 2018
