Australian Centre for Montessori Studies

The Australian Centre for Montessori Studies (ACMS) is a national organisation committed to providing quality training to the Montessori teaching community, and to those interested in becoming qualified in the Montessori method.  ACMS is the only training centre in the country endorsed to provide the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Montessori courses, considered the most highly regarded worldwide.

ACMS provides two levels of courses, the Montessori Certificate and Montessori Diploma.  Each of these levels has three different courses based on the age ranges of the children:

  • 0-3 Assistants to Infancy
  • 3-6 Early Childhood
  • 6-12 Primary

The Montessori Certificate is a short course aimed at providing an overview of Montessori pedagogy, suitable for parents or Montessori Assistants.

The Montessori Diploma is a conprehensive teacher training course for Montessori Directors/Directresses.

All early childhood educators (those working with children from birth to preschool age) must have, or be actively working towards, at least an approved Certificate III level education and care qualification and 50% of educators in a centre must have, or be actively working towards, at least an approved diploma level education and care qualification.

Since 28 September 2016, the governing body for early childhood qualifications, the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) has endorsed the ACMS AMI Montessori Diploma Early Childhood as an approved diploma level qualification.  For details on this, visit the ACECQA website.
